Celtic Connections 2015
I’m going to show you some recent work in the next couple of posts.
First up, I did photos at Celtic Connections again this year.
Lost count of how many I’ve time I’ve done this now, the first was in 2007.
Last year I did this.
The trouble that I have is that I am feeling stuck.
In terms of career progression.
How do I progress to the next level?
Creatively I can do a lot of different stuff and want (need) to challenge myself.
Each year I’ve tried to approach this differently and maybe have a theme.
New voices and new venues was my theme for this year.
Bands that I’ve never seen before in places that I’ve never photographed.
There are a lot of acts that return to the festival year on year and while that’s great it doesn’t make my portfolio look diverse now does it?
Same goes for venues. I’m bored going to the ABC or Òran Mór.
They’re fine places but your photos tend to end up all looking the same.
We’ll start a the beginning where I saw Tiny Ruins from New Zealand at the Tron Theatre.
Then I saw Tweedy & Field Report at the concert hall, which was really hard as we weren’t allowed access to the front of the stage.
That meant shooting from the wings which was actually quite challenging.
Next up was Maggie Björklund at the Old Fruitmarket.
I really like my photos of Maggie’s trio, they look like they’re posed but they aren’t.
Lastly Calexico and the Kris Drever trio, again in the Old Fruitmarket.
